Overview
The Charm of Impressionism
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that originated with a group of Paris-based artists. The name of the style is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise. Impressionism made emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities; common, ordinary subject matter; the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience; and unusual visual angles. Post impressionism made more emphasis on the subjective expression of an artist. The charm of impressionism not only comes from the soul-touching richness of colors, but also the reflections on the dynamism of European daily life in 19 century. It is the spectacular interweave of content, context and visual elements that made impressionism one of the most popular in art history.
Giclee
Giclee is a French technique of print-making. While traditional print-making technique is always inadequate in capturing the texture of an artwork, the digital scanning and output of Giclee has made it possible. Giclee is different from the traditional 4-color output in terms of the richness of layering and tonality. The visual quality can last for over 80 years. Its color editing and balancing are and sophisticated procedures that makes it impossible for mass production. Through the groundbreaking technology, the essence and every stroke of an artwork can get accurately translated. Therefore, it is widely used by national museums who favor its intrinsic artistic value. Giclee is now a new trend for collectors, who are tempted by its reasonable price and its investing value. It is also a good idea for those who want to explore the world of art collecting as a beginner.
The re-made impressionism collection, which will be exhibited, has been authorized by museums or art organizations. As most of the works of prominent impressionist painters are collected in European national museums, it is hard for audience from other countries to view the original piece. The exhibition ‘Impressionism’ at Gallery by the Harbour is a tribute to the masters of impressionism, including Monet, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir, Cezanne, Gauguin and Van Gogh, etc. It’s a precious chance for audience to closely study the works by their favorite painters. The exhibition will be held from 4th to 21st, August, 2011 at Gallery by the Harbor, Harbor City, with free entrance.
